Search
Advanced Search is the default search mode.

- Enter your search query in the Find boxes.
- Choose a specific search field from the drop-down list.
- Use operators to combine two or more search fields.
- Refine the search by Limiters if necessary.
- Click Search.

Search Commands
Boolean Operations
- AND --- Combines search terms so that each result contains all of the terms.
e.g., China and panda will only find articles that contain both words.
- OR --- Combines search terms so that each result contains at least one of the terms.
e.g., children or teenager will find articles that contain either children or teenager.
- NOT --- Excludes the occurrence of search terms in the results.
e.g., beer not wine finds articles on beer, excluding those which also mention wine.
Wildcard & Truncation
- Wildcard (?) --- Stands for one character embedded within or at the end of a word.
e.g., wom?n will find articles that contain woman or women.
- Truncation(*) --- Stands for any number of characters at the end of a word.
e.g., comput* will find articles that contain computer, computers, computing or computerize.
Proximity
- Within (W#) --- W5 will find results containing search terms that are within 5 words of each other, in the exact order entered.
e.g., school w5 science will find results that contain "school of science" but not "science school".
- Near(N#) --- N5 will find results containing search terms that are within 5 words of each other, regardless of the order in which they appear, # can be any numeric value.
e.g., tax n5 reform will find results that contain "tax reform" or "reform of income tax".
Exact Phase
- If you're searching for a phrase rather than just a single word, you can group the words together with quotation marks. Searching on "joint venture" will return only items with that exact phrase.
Search Precedence
- Parentheses (...) --- Words in parentheses will be searched first.
e.g., (real estate or real property) and China.
