Funder Requirements on Data Sharing

Many funding agencies have guidelines and policies for research data management.

Research projects funded by the Research Grants Council (RGC) in HK:

It states in the RGC document, Disbursement, Accounting and Monitoring Arrangements for Funding Schemes Administered by the Research Grants Councilsection 37. 

For the research projects approved in 2016/17 and onwards, when making their project completion reports, the Principal Investigator (PI)

  • Should include URL links to the university’s repositories or the publishers’ websites
  • Is encouraged to include the data repositories where research data of their projects can be accessed and shared.

Data Availability Policies by Publishers and Journals

Many publishers now require article authors to provide well-documented data used in the research and make these data easily available to other researchers. The Open Access Directory maintains a Journal open-data policies list for journal titles that have data-sharing mandates.
