This guide will help students prepare their research proposal for HUMA 2400: Research Methods & the Humanities of Love, Hatred, Life & Death by doing reserach in the areas of anthropolofy, linguistics, or literature.

Citing

Remember to record citation information for each book, book chapter, article, or web-document you read for your research

  • Author(s) - (who wrote it)
  • Title - (what the article is called)
  • Source - (title of the periodical or larger work it appeared in)
  • Volume & Issue numbers  (if available)
  • Date of publication
  • Page numbers
  • DOI or URL or both

RefWorks

  • A Library provided software
  • Helps you manage your bibliographic references
  • Makes it easier to write your papers and thesis
  • Available (on campus & remotely) to all HKUST students and staff

There will be special classes on how to use it later in the semester.This User Guide  will help you.

Citation Machine
A free online source that allows you to cut and paste information into boxes and automatically generate a citation. It's simpler and more basic than RefWorks.

Refworks - Learning Vidoes & Manual

  1. RefWorks on YouTube - these online videos will walk you through from RefWorks basics to all advance features. For example:
    1. Accessing RefWorks & Creating an Account & Logging in  (2 min, 53 sec)
    2. Adding References to RefWorks with Direct Export  (2 min 14 sec)
  2. RefWorks Help File - A complete instruction manual for RefWorks 2.0.
