As an author, you may encounter OA in these scenarios:

1.

"Congratulations! Now you can make your work OA to boost its visibility."

Your manuscript got accepted by a journal, and now they ask if you want to publish your work in Gold OA. If yes, an APC will be charged.

2.

"We publish OA articles and we invite you to submit a manuscript!"

You receive an invitation from an OA journal to publish your work in OA. An APC will be charged if your paper got accepted.

3.

"All XXX-funded projects are required to make their research outputs OA ..."

The funder of your research requires you to make your publication OA (either by publishing in OA or by depositing the accepted manuscript in the institutional repository).

OA terminologies can be confused - Gold OA or Green OA? Gold OA or Hybrid OA journals? APC? Accepted manuscript?

This interactive infographic will walk you through the process of these scenarios, clarify OA terms, and hopefully, can help you make informed decisions whenever you encounter OA.
