How to Find Magazine Articles in EBSCOhost

If you need more information for the project, magazine articles may be a good source. The synonyms or keywords you previously developed in the concept map are useful for building search statement in databases. The following example shows you how to search magazine articles in Ebscohost

Ebscohost Research Database

    1. EBSCO is a multi-disciplinary database which provides access to 18 databases. To search business magazine articles, select Business Source Premier, and click Continue.
       
    2. Enter your search term(s) in the first search box. Choose the search field from the optional Select a Field drop-down list (e.g. Author, Abstract, etc) if necessary. You can also use the following commands to build your search statement.For example, 
      lifestyle OR consumer AND brand* AND Japan
       
      • Phrase searching - enclose an English term in double quotation marks ("...") to ensure it is searched as a phrase
         
      • Truncation(*) - stands for any number of characters at the end of a word.
        e.g., brand* will find articles that contain brand, brands or branding.
         
    3. Select a Boolean operator (AND, OR, NOT) to combine different search terms. 
       
    4. On your result list (above), click "Show More" in the Source Types. Select Magazines to limit your results to magazine articles. 

    5. Click Update.
       
    6. If you retrieve too many results, specifiy the Publication Date to further narrow down your results.

How to Find Magazine Articles in ProQuest

The following example shows you how to search magazine articles in ProQuest.

  1. Select Advanced at the top left hand corner to open the Advanced Search form.
     
  2. Enter one or more keywords in the search box. Search field (e.g. Abstract, Author, Document Title, Publication Title, etc) can help to narrow down your search. You can also use the following commands to build your search statements
     
    • Phrase searching - enclose an English term in double quotation marks ("...") to ensure it is searched as a phrase
       
    • Truncation character (*) - use * for many characters. You can use use the truncation character at the beginning, the end, or in the middle of search terms e.g. Perform* will retrieve performance, performer, etc. 
       
  3. Use search operators (e.g. AND, OR, NOT) to combine different search terms.
     
  4. Mark the Full text checkbox for the "Limit to" search options to get full-text.
     
  5. Click Search.
     
  6. On the Results page, click "More options" under Source type on the right-hand side. Select Magazines to limit your results to magazine articles and click Apply to continue.
  7. To view abstract or full-text of an article, select .
     
  8. You can also email, print, export, save the document  .
