The HKU, CUHK, and City U Library and their university presses have launched Hong Kong's first Open Access books programme.

Internet Archive

The Internet Archive is a non-profit digital collection of books, websites, magazines, audio and video files, maps, and nearly 3 million public domain books.

Google Books

Google Books is a searchable database consisting of books and magazine articles scanned by the Google Book project.

However, most of the books indexed are still in copyright and not available for complete download or reading.

E-Books@Hong Kong Public Libraries

Thousands of e-books are now available at the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL), enabling people with an HKPL account to get online  books without having to go to the Library. There are both Chinese and English book databases. Below are some highlighted databases, similar to the HKUST collection.

Chinese E-books: 

  • Apabi - Chinese e-books published in the Mainland
  • Hyread - Chinese books published in Taiwan

English E-books:

 

 

Users with HKPL valid Library Card or a Hong Kong smart ID card with Library services can now access the e-books via the Hong Kong Public Libraries e-books collection at http://www.hkpl.gov.hk/en/e-resources/e-books/home
