This guide answers questions frequently asked at the HKUST Library.

Can I renew a loan online?

Yes, you can.  Log in to "My Account", then you can view your loans and renew them by.   More details are in the PowerSearch Guide

May I borrow journals and magazines?

You may borrow older journals and magazines for 7 days, with one renewal.

You may borrow recent issues (within the last year) overnight. This means you may check them out during the last opening hour of the Library and must return them within the first hour of opening the next day.

Can I get books and articles that are not in the Library, or not available online

Yes, you can.

  • HKALL for books from other university libraries (no need to go there)
  • Interlibrary Loan for books or articles from other local or overseas libraries.
  • JULAC card for entering other UGC-supported University libraries (HKU, CUHK, etc.)

Can I return books borrowed from other university libraries?

For HKALL and ILL books, return them to the Service Counter.

If you used your JULAC card to borrow at another Library, it's expected that they will be physically returned to the same the lending library. However, if the books are not overdue, you may return them at the Service Counter. Show your JULAC card to the staff on duty to use this service.

Who borrowed the book I need, or who has recalled my book?

Sorry, the Library cannot disclose this information because of its privacy policy.

Can I reserve a book borrowed by someone else?

You may place holds on checked-out books and media, and on 3-day and 7-day Reserve, or in process books or process media.

A requested book will be recalled after two weeks.
